Just prior to 2001 I had completed the Arts Council supported project "Culverts to Conduits (inspired by basic civil engineering infrastructure) and subsequently thought of this small project linking nuclear technology with the more prosaic activity of traditional barrel making (coopering). I'd only ever seen the detail of these industries on film but something about their purposes, practicalities and values seemed an interesting complementary contrast. A word like "containment" could spark a lifetimes work.
Flask is a tube container with pull off lid at both ends, and a direct reference to nuclear fuel rods.
